SIGNING DEADLINE PASSES, AIKEN DOESN’T SIGN

AstrosThe deadline to sign picks from the 2014 First Year Player Draft came and went today and the Astros failed to come to terms with 1/1 pick Brady Aiken, the highly touted left-handed high school pitcher out of California. Despite agreeing on a $6.5 MM signing bonus, a physical turned into an impasse as the club expressed concerns about Aiken’s UCL and reduced their offer.

Since then, the two sides have been unable to come together and Aiken now may move on to UCLA and will be eligible for next year’s draft. The Astros will get the #2 overall pick next year as compensation, along with their own first-round pick.
