The Detroit Tigers have come to terms with two-time MVP Miguel Cabrera, extending his contract eight years beyond the two left on his current deal. The extension, which runs through the 2023 season, is reportedly worth $248MM, with two more years possible at $30MM each
The eight-year extension takes Cabrera to his age-40 season.
Coming off back-to-back AL MVP awards, Cabrera was set to earn $22MM in each of the next two seasons before hitting free agency. The Tigers signed him to an 8YR/$152.3MM deal that the slugging infielder has more than lived up to. When his new deal kicks in, the Average Annual Value will set a new record at $31MM.
