The statuses of players in Spring Training and the decisions that teams must make regarding them are all over the map this time each year. The latest Collective Bargaining Agreement added a new wrinkle that protects some players of a particular status, and there are several conditions for fitting into this group.
I explained this nuance last year here, and the parameters are no different this time around, nor will they be until the current CBA expires. Matt Eddy of Baseball America, typically, is all over this class and has a rundown of the 34 players that qualify under this recently enacted article. This is one of the more interesting features of many in the current CBA that have altered player movement.
