NATS DEAL PROSPECTS FOR FISTER

Washington-Nationals-logoThe Washington Nationals have acquired RHP Doug Fister from the Detroit Tigers for a package of prospects.

NATIONALS GET: RHP Doug Fister
TIGERS GET: LHP Ian Krol, LHP Robbie Ray, INF Steve Lombardozzi

The move strengthens an already formidable Nationals starting rotation, with Fister fitting in amongst Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman and Gio Gonzalez. With Dan Haren no longer in Washington, Fister will get his innings. The Tigers appear to be making money available to keep Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer.

Like the trade between the Angels and Cardinals earlier involving David Freese, observers are split on this one. Fister’s a proven commodity, a ground-ball pitcher who succeeded on a poor fielding team in Detroit. Things look to get better in Washington for the right hander. But some people just don’t like giving up young, controllable players. Let the debate rage on.
