While the offseason signings are heating up in advance of the Winter Meetings, the Tigers and Rangers have pulled off the first high-profile trade of the hot stove season:
RANGERS GET: 1B Prince Fielder and $30MM
TIGERS GET: 2B Ian Kinsler
The Tigers boldly signed Fielder to a 9YR/$214MM contract before the 2012 season and their payoff has been debated. The club made a World Series appearance in 2012, losing to the Giants, and Miguel Cabrera won back-to-back MVP awards with Fielder hitting behind him.
But Prince’s numbers have tailed off in some key categories over the last three seasons and he had a rough post-season including no homers.
