For the week ending July 21, the California League has honored the following players:
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JUAN DURAN, OF, Bakersfield Blaze (Reds)
Duran stands out from his teammates with his athletic 6′ 7″ 205-pound frame and he has been showing recently how skilled he can be at the plate. The 21-year old out of the Dominican Republic returned to Bakersfield for a second season and it hasn’t gone all that well overall, but since July 14th he has been on fire. Duran was recognized for a week in which he batted .476/.520/.905 with 2 HR and 10 RBI.
On Sunday, July 21 against Lancaster (Astros), Duran punctuated his week with a 3-for-4 performance that included a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK- BRANDON SINNERY, RHP, VISALIA RAWHIDE (Diamondbacks)
Sinnery started the season at loA South Bend and went 7-4 in 17 appearances (15 starts) to earn the promotion to hiA Visalia. On July 21 the right-hander out of Michigan made his California League debut on the road against High Desert and threw six innings of two-hit, scoreless ball. Sinnery, at 6’4″ and 170 pounds, walked just two and struck out nine in a dominant outing that saw the Rawhide win by a score of 3-0. Not a bad debut for the Orange, NJ native.
