For the week ending June 30 the California League has recognized the following players:
Riggins got hot at the plate and posted a line of .375/.500/.833 with 3 HR, 7 RBI and 9 R for the Nuts. A seventh-round pick out of North Carolina St. in 2011, Riggins is ranked as the Rockies’ #23 prospect by Baseball America. At 6-2, 240, Riggins has the power to drive the ball to all fields and is on his way to topping his season high for homers set last year at 19 in loA Asheville. The three bombs last week brought his total to 12, then he added #13 July 1 with a solo shot against San Jose.
Winkler had two solid starts for the week, both wins, totaling 14 IP with only two hits and two ER allowed while striking out 15 batters against four walks. Drafted out of Central Florida in the 20th round of the 2011 draft, Winkler is having his best minor league season at 11-2 with a 2.02 ERA. With 98 IP on the season, Winkler has allowed only 25 walks and struck out 113.
The June 24th win over San Jose (Giants) was a combined no-hitter as Winkler went seven innings and two Nuts relievers finished it off. Against High Desert (Mariners) on June 29, Winkler went 7 1/3 allowing only two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out eight.
