The UCLA Bruins went 2-0 in the best-of-3 CWS final to down Mississippi St. and earn the first national championship in program history. UCLA got on the board early and cruised to an 8-0 victory on Tuesday night, after winning Game 1 on Monday by a score of 3-1.
Junior right-hander Nick Vander Tuig tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits and a walk against six K’s in the title-clincher. RF Eric Filia was the hitting star, among several, with two hits and five RBI. Vander Tuig was a sixth-round selection by the San Francisco Giants in this year’s First Year Player Draft.
