CALIFORNIA LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

For the week ending June 2, the California League has recognized the following players:

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – PRESTON TUCKER, OF, LANCASTER JETHAWKS

Tucker went on an RBI tear, starting with a 6-RBI game against Rancho Cucomonga (Dodgers) that led the Jet Hawks (Astros) to a 10-2 win. With at least two RBI in each of his next five games, Tucker boosted his Cal League-leading total to 57. The defending Cal League champion Jethawks currently lead the South division by five games with Tucker’s .306/.373/.520 bat pacing the offense. Tucker was selected in the 7th round of last year’s First Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida and is in his first full season of pro ball after tearing up the New York Penn League in 42 games last year.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – BRADY RODGERS, RHP, LANCASTER JETHAWKS

The Jethawks also boast the Pitcher of the Week as Rodgers earned his honors while bouncing back and forth between relieving and starting per Houston’s piggyback system. In a May 28th start against Rancho Cucomonga (Dodgers), Rodgers threw five scoreless innings allowing just two hits and a walk with one K. Out of the bullpen on June 1st against Visalia (Diamondbacks), he threw another four shutout innings with two hits, no walks and three K’s. Rodgers was a third-round draft pick out of Arizona State last year and is ranked as the Astros’ #23 prospect by  Baseball America.
