CALIFORNIA LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

For the week ending May 26th, the California League has honored the following players:

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ANDREW APLIN, OF, Lancaster Jethawks
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – TY BLACH, LHP, San Jose Giants

Aplin posted an impressive line of .462/.575/.885 with 2 HR and 10 RBI for the Jethawks (Astros). Taken in the 5th round of the 2012 draft out of Arizona State, Aplin played 44 games in the New York Penn League last year where he earned All-Star honors, and started this season at hiA with Lancaster. With the red-hot week, Aplin’s season line now sits at .289/.385/.500 with 5 HR, 43 RBI and 42 runs scored. Among several multi-hit games over the week, Aplin went 3-for-4 on May 24th against Inland Empire (Angels) with a HR and and 4 RBI.

Blach is also a 5th round pick from 2012 and he threw 8 shutout innings for San Jose (Giants) on May 21st against Inland Empire (Angels) with 1 BB and 11 K’s. It was the 3rd straight win for Blach, who improved to 6-1 on the year with an ERA of 1.89. The left-hander out of Creighton is in his first season of professional baseball.
