On this last day of the 2012 Winter Meetings in Nashville, the Rule 5 draft was held. The draft is for players who aren’t on a major league 40-man roster after either four or five years since signing, depending on the player’s age when he signed. Here are the results:

There were no selections in the Double-A phase. Due to the requirement of four (18 and younger when drafted) or five years (19 or older) as a pro, some of these players aren’t seen as very bright prospects at this point in their careers. Prior to the 2006 CBA, it was three years or four years, and the biggest example of a Rule 5 steal prior to the change is Johan Santana in 1999.
