MARLINS SHIP BELL TO D’BACKS IN 3-TEAM DEAL

The Marlins sent unhappy reliever Heath Bell to Arizona in a 3-way trade that includes the Oakland A’s.

FLORIDA GETS – INF Yordy Cabrera (minors)

DIAMONDBACKS GET – Heath Bell, Cliff Pennington

A’S GET – Chris Young and cash from Arizona

Also, the Diamondbacks picked up the 2013 option on closer J.J. Putz today. The club will pay Putz $6.5M next year, rather than the $1.5M buyout. Bell is in the second year of a 3yr/$27M contract that he signed with Florida last offseason.

It went famously bad for Bell with the Marlins and manager Ozzie Guillen which led to Bell making some pointed, critical remarks in the press lately. Kirk Gibson will be a much different managerial figure for Bell if he stays in Arizona along with Putz. Stay tuned.
