Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval continued his minor league rehab on Tuesday in Fresno, CA where he batted cleanup for the AAA Grizzlies against the Salt Lake City Bees (Angels). In a 5-2 Grizzlies win, the Panda had no fielding chances, but he went 1-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
Sandoval was injured on May 2nd when he broke a hamate bone, the same injury he had in his opposite hand almost exactly a year earlier. His first rehab stop was hiA San Jose where he went 3-12 with a double and a homer over three games.
Tonight, in cool, windy conditions, the 2011 All-Star led off the bottom of the second with a line out to second base. In the third he grounded to the SLC shortstop who stepped on second to force the runner Francisco Peguero to end the inning.
Sandoval led off the bottom of the sixth with a booming double to left field, took third on a single by Nick Noonan and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Charlie Culberson.
In the bottom of the seventh, Latroy Hawkins took the mound for the Bees and induced Sandoval to ground out to second.
