RHP Mark Appel, projected by many to go first in the First Year Player Draft, will be on the mound today at 6PM when host Stanford takes on Fresno State in an NCAA Tournament Regional. Appel went 9-1 over 14 starts this season and was named as a first-team All American.

The one loss on Appel’s record was to Fresno State on March 2nd in Fresno. Appel was hit hard in a 7-4 loss and gave up two long home runs to¬† Aaron Judge. The¬†Cardinal (38-16) won the series 2 games to 1, however.

Fresno State had a disappointing regular season, going 25-25 and 8-10 in conference play, but got hot at the WAC tournament to win their way into the post-season. LHP Tyler Linehan will oppose Appel after returning from a back injury.
