Bauer with hi A Visalia in 2011

RHP Trevor Bauer, the third overall selection in last June’s draft, has quickly risen to the top of the minor leagues with his promotion to AAA on Thursday. After a solid spring in the Diamondbacks’ big league camp, Bauer has been dominant in eight starts with AA Mobile of the Southern League.

After a stellar career at UCLA, Bauer signed quickly with Arizona and got his first minor league start on July 30th of last year. In seven starts between hi A Visalia and AA Mobile, the righty showed big-time skills despite his 1-2 overall record and 5.96 ERA.

Following this year’s impressive Spring Training, Bauer reported to Mobile and has put up flashy numbers. Over 48 1/3  IP, he has allowed 33 hits, 26 BB and 60 K’s. Opponents are batting .192 against Bauer, who leaves AA this season with a record of 7-1 and a 1.68 ERA.

Pitching is a position of depth for the Diamondbacks, who also have LHP Tyler Skaggs at Mobile, as well as 2011 #7 overall pick RHP Archie Bradley at A South Bend.
