26-year old Cuban OF Yoenis Cespedes has agreed to a four-year/$36M deal with the Oakland A’s, to the surprise of many. Cespedes joins a long list of young talent that the A’s have acquired in recent months, only this one cost Billy Beane and Co. money, not established major league talent.
There are several question marks tied to Cespedes, the biggest one being whether his big bat will translate to the major leagues. At $9M per year, average annual value, the A’s will most likely have him in the big-league lineup on Opening Day. And while a lot of clubs were said to be interested in Cespedes, Oakland’s name wasn’t prominent among them.
