The hot stove rolls on with a ton of noteworthy dates on the schedule as winter turns to spring. Here’s a rundown from February 1st through mid-May:

  • February 1 – 21 –  Salary arbitration hearings, St. Petersburg, FL
  • March 11 – Last day to renew major league contracts
  • March 19 – Last day to place a player on unconditional release waivers and pay 30 days termination pay (rather than 45 days)
  • March 19 – Last day to assign an injured player to a minor league club (if applicable)
  • March 26 – Earliest date that a club may backdate a placement on the major league 15-day DL
  • April 4 – Opening Night, rosters reduced to 25
  • April 10 – First day that a player placed on the 15-day DL during Spring Training may be reinstated, if they were placed on or backdated to March 26
  • April 14 – First day that a player optioned to minors during Spring Training can be recalled
  • May 15 – Earliest date that clubs may re-sign players that they unconditionally released between 8/31/11 and 3/31/12
