The Miami Marlins continued a busy offseason on Sunday with the signing of SS Jose Reyes to a six-year deal, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting. Reyes is one of the bigger names in this boom year for high-profile free agents, and just one of the many players that the Marlins have pursued.
Reyes has been slowed by injuries the last three seasons, but he was still able to show his dazzling talent over 126 games in 2011, winning the NL batting title along the way. His 6.2 WAR and .877 OPS from the shortstop position made the slick-fielding Reyes a game-changer coveted by many teams.
The Marlins have changed their name (from Florida to Miami) and their logo, added Ozzie Guillen as manager and now have Reyes in the fold for their new stadium in 2012. Pretty good run in south Florida before the Winter Meetings even start.
