Washington Nationals top prospect Bryce Harper suffered a strained right hamstring in a AA game Thursday and it appears he may be shut down for the final couple of weeks of the minor league season. Harper may see action in the Arizona Fall League, depending on the severity of the injury. The first overall pick of the 2010 draft was carried off the field after the injury, which occured on the basepaths while running from first to third.
Harper is still only 18 years old, having left high-school early and played one year of junior college ball before being selected by the Nationals. Harper was solid in the AFL last season and tore up A ball this year, though his stop at AA hasn’t been quite as productive. But he is prime property for the Nationals and caution appears to be the word as Harper works his way up to the big club.
