After two very encouraging rehab starts, rehabbing Stephen Strasburg struggled over 1 2/3 innings in his third outing Thursday. Pitching for class-A Hagerstown, the right-hander coming back from Tommy John surgery threw 49 pitches, 29 for strikes, and gave up five earned runs.
A long first inning, 32 pitches, ate into his pre-set limit of 50. It took 25 pitches just to record the first out as Strasburg went on to finish his outing allowing four runs and two walks. The first overall pick of the 2009 draft had every bit of his vaunted speed, throwing in the upper 90’s, but he struggled with command.
Strasburg is next scheduled to throw Monday for Hagerstown.
