2B Dustin Ackley, the Seattle Mariners’ number one prospect (BA), is tearing up the PCL lately, and today Dave Cameron of the U.S.S. Mariner has a story up saying the Ackley might get the call very soon.

Ackley was sent to AAA at the end of Spring Training to get more work in defensively at 2B. While his batting numbers don’t jump out at you (.280/.399/.445)¬†Ackley has come alive at the plate and is hitting .463/.540./.707 over his last 10 games with two HRs.

The Mariners started the season with their number one prospect (BA), Michael Pineda, on the big league roster and it has worked out pretty well. Pineda’s one of the team’s best pitchers and has brought his filthy repertoire into the bigs, posting a 5-2 record so far with a 13/52 ratio of BB/K in 51 innings and a 1.01 WHIP.

While Ackley’s readiness for the big leagues may have been a concern in the Spring, the consideration of service time is not. At this point, the season is far enough along that Ackley won’t be eligible for Super Two status.
